Treat your family to a magical 5 day discovery trip to the Red Centre.
Stay at the renowned Desert Gardens hotel and discover the wonders of Uluru and Kata Tjuta. Zip around the base of Uluru on a segway, see the night light up at the Field of Light, discover the mysteries of the outback sky and the Milky way with our Astro tour, ride a camel on sacred ground and enjoy a family sunset BBQ dinner with breathtaking views of Uluru.
Transfer from the airport to Ayers Rock Resort. After checking into Desert Gardens Hotel, it’s time to relax and get ready for your outback adventure.
Tonight the outback will light up as you enter into the Field of Light.
This critically acclaimed Field of Light Uluru by the internationally celebrated artist Bruce Munro is a gentle rhythm of colours that lights up the desert. The exhibition, aptly named Tili Wiru Tjuta Nyakutjaku or ‘looking at lots of beautiful lights’ in local Pitjantjatjara is Munro’s largest work to date. Overwhelming in size, covering more than seven football fields, it invites immersion in its fantasy garden of 50,000 spindles of light, the stems breathing and swaying through a sympathetic desert spectrum of ochre, deep violet, blue and gentle white.
Today you will experience a unique and fun new way to see Uluru. Gliding around Uluru on a Segway is hard to beat. Admire the geology and size of this icon. See ancient Aboriginal rock art and learn about Anangu (local Aboriginal) people. Learn about their way of life and their culture, the Tjurkurpa.
After being picked up from your hotel, we will drive to the base of Uluru where you’ll be shown by your friendly guide how to ride a Segway and test your skills over our Segway training course. Once the group is confident riding the Segway, you’ll travel the entire way around Uluru! Your guide will stop to share with you information about local culture, history and nature. You’ll also have incredible photo opportunities. After completing the full loop around the base of Uluru, you’ll dismount from your Segway and be led by your guide into Mutitjulu waterhole, where you can view ancient Aboriginal rock art.
For those that can not ride a segway, we also have a second option where our guide will take you to a special location to watch the sunrise over this amazing monolith and enjoy an outback picnic breakfast.
After the sunrise, you will visit Mutijulu Waterhole on the Kuniya Walk and learn the Creation stories of Liru (poisonous snake) and Kuniya (python). After this short walk, we will drive around the base of Uluru and hear the story of the Mala people before returning to the resort.
Have a sleep in, and enjoy a leisurely morning before departing from your Ayers Rock Resort accommodation around 11.30am and journey 45km east of Uluru along the Lasseter Highway to Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) and explore Walpa Gorge.
The 36 domes of Kata Tjuta cover an area of over 21 kms², and with Uluru, they form the major landmarks within Uluru–Kata Tjuta National Park.
Walk between the sheer walls of two of the largest domes that make up Walpa Gorge and experience this amazing landscape, with spectacular views as you look out from the gorge of the Outback plain.
Our tour allows you to view the park at a level that suits your fitness.
Tonight you will discover the mysteries of the outback night sky.
This stargazing tour will take you on a fact-finding journey through the southern night sky, enhancing your knowledge on astronomy and its beginnings. Your resident astronomer will guide you through the evolution of the Universe.
Take a moment to explore the vast night landscape with the use of telescopes and binoculars. Learn how stars are formed, why they produce light, the lifecycle of a star, the theory of ‘the Big Bang’ and much more. Don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity to have your questions answered in an Australian outback classroom.
Today you will take the ultimate camel adventure. Home to the largest camel farm in Australia, with over 60 beautiful camels, you will be inspired by the stunning surrounds of Uluru and Kata Tjuta as you gently coast for one hour over the rich red sand dunes in the cool, clear morning air. Witness the sunrise over Uluru and Kata Tjuta. Watch the desert come to life as our friendly and knowledgeable cameleers tell you about the flora and fauna along the trail. After your ride, enjoy a light breakfast of our famous freshly baked beer bread damper with Australian jams, tea & coffee.
Take some time to rest up then join our fun and organic dot painting workshop. This dot painting workshop runs for an hour and a half, guided by a local Anangu artist and interpreter. Learn about the symbols and painting styles used to create beautiful works of art depicting the Creation time (Tjukurpa) stories. Bringing a touch of something unexpected, colourful and a connection to the experience while celebrating and combining stories of people and places. Be inspired and join the artists to complete your own story in painting which you will take home as a memento of your experience. An absorbing and fulfilling time for all ages and gender.
Tonight your Uluru sunset experience starts when we pick you up from Ayers Rock Resort 90 mins prior to the sun setting and take you to the Uluru sunset viewing area.
Dinner is a freshly cooked and tasty Outback BBQ, to be enjoyed while you watch the rock change colours as the light of the day begins to fade.
The adults can enjoy a glass of sparkling wine and take in one of the world’s most uniquely beautiful sunset experiences while your guide prepares your meal.
After dinner, you’ll be transferred back to the resort and dropped off at your hotel.
Depending on your departure flight time, you may want to join in on some optional free activities, including an indigenous guided garden walk, bush food experience, listening to a bush yarn, or discovering the local indigenous art at any of the three fascinating art galleries located at Ayers Rock Resort.
